About Rechargeable Battery Materials in Canada

Umicore is preparing to build a battery materials production plant in Loyalist Township, Ontario - the first of its kind in North America. The cutting-edge facility will be a critical part of Canada’s electric vehicle (EV) supply chain. Throughout the design, construction, and operation of the plant, Umicore will be seeking a variety of professionals who share our passion for innovation and sustainability.

 

What you will be doing

For this new site, we are looking for a Production Supervisor, reporting to the Production Manager. In this role you will be responsible for supervising the production team in producing precursor cathode active materials (CAM) or cathode active materials (CAM) in accordance with customer-ordered volumes. Your focus is on ensuring stable quality, cost efficiency, customer satisfaction, compliance with EHS guidelines, effective people supervision , and continuous improvement within the production department.

The production supervisor will have the unique opportunity to influence the design and complete commissioning of the new Umicore Loyalist facility.

 

Responsibilities

  • Supervise shift leaders to meet the requirements outlined in the production planning guidelines established by the planning team.
  • Coordinate production activities across all shifts, taking into account resources (People, Material, Machine, Method), in collaboration with Shift Leaders.
  • Monitor and enhance KPIs related to production in collaboration with Production Engineers and Technicians.
  • Coordinate maintenance work with Asset Management , provide guidance on production priorities, and proactively prevent production deviations in collaboration with support functions.
  • Adhere to EHS guidelines, aiming to reduce workers’ exposure to dust and contribute to enhancing the EHS culture.
  • Aim for minimal losses and optimal Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE). Take prompt action to minimize production downtime and expedite production recovery.
  • Ensure Production compliance with all procedures, work instructions, process control plans, and adhere to all quality and safety guidelines.
  • Collaborate with peers to foster high production performance, stable product quality, and achieve process improvement and cost-saving targets.

 

Who we are looking for

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma with 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing plant
  • Good knowledge of processes such as precipitation, dissolution, filtration, drying and dry powder handling and/ or knowledge of battery material processes is an asset.
  • Knowledge of operations management (planning, production systems, 5S, Kaizen…).
  • Knowledge of Quality, Environment and Safety management systems would be an asset
  • Knowledge of process safety requirements and risk assessment
  • Exposure to systems & tools applied in operational excellence (lean 6 sigma, VSM, TOC, TPM, 5S) and their implementation
  • Good communicator, strong interpersonal skills, promoter of cross-department cooperation
  • Enthusiastic team player with an open "can do" mentality
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems
  • Independent, self-motivated with strong analytical thinking, and problem solving ability
  • Proven ability to coordinate teams and projects
  • This role’s onboarding program includes up to 3 months training in Europe.
